Fitzgerald has worked as the Head of the Sculpture Department at the Limerick School of Art and Design since 1976. One of the founder members of EV+A and a participating selector for the Victor Treacy Awards, he has exhibited extensively in Ireland and abroad. Fitzgerald's public sculpture commissions include; 'Falla' for the Industrial Development Authority, Annacoty in 1986, 'Sweeney's Throne' for the Custom House, Limerick in 1987, 'Temple for MB', Seoul, South Korea in 1988 and 'Aesop's Pillars', Limerick in 1993. In 2001 Fitzgerald was elected to membership of Aosdana. Three publications on the artist's work were released in 2005. These included a Gandon Profile, a hardback version with additional material published by Limerick City Gallery and a drawing catalogue also published by Gandon. Copies of these books are available in the artists file. File also contains an extensive collection of catalogues, newspaper articles and images of the artist's work.View more information about this artist
