Holten's agricultural, environmental and architectural installations comment on the fragility of contemporary life. She works in a wide range of media including sound/audio, photography, painting and performance. She has carried out research on environmental arts projects and vacant urban spaces in order to explore the concept of vulnerability and fragility. Using garden weeds and other plants she creates topographical installations that prompt the viewer to reconsider the relationship between the absurd and the actual. Director of TUP Institute of Contemporary Art. Holten has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland and abroad in several major group and solo shows. She represented Ireland in the 2003 Venice Biennale.
