Scope and Content

No. 95 in an edition of 150, signed by the living poets and artists.
16 was published by Stoney Road Press in association with An Post and Poetry Ireland to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. It is a large sized book with a grey linen and blue leather cover housed in a blue slip case. The book contains letterpress text and poetry hand set in Dolly Roman type and hand printed images.
Four contemporary poets were commissioned by Poetry Ireland to write a poem and four artists were commissioned by Stoney Road Press to create a print in response to the Easter Rising. The poets are Harry Clifton, Vona Groarke, Paula Meehan and Paul Muldoon. The artists are Michael Canning, Alice Maher, Brian O'Doherty and Kathy Prendergast. The introduction was written by Professor Declan Kiberd and he also chose eight other relevant poems to be included in this volume.
A special presentation of this book is included in the GPO Witness History exhibition. An Post also issued 16 special edition stamps to commemorate the Rising and a sheet of them is included in this book.
