About the Exhibitions Database

The NIVAL Exhibitions Database has been compiled to improve public access to the Library's extensive collection of files documenting art and design exhibitions in Ireland.  The files contain catalogues, press material and ephemera on more than 10,000 solo and group exhibitions from the period 1900 to the present.

The Exhibitions Database is a reference resource providing basic details on Irish exhibitions including title, date, venue, and artists represented.  A visit to the library is recommended to researchers seeking a comprehensive view of the actual files.

Scope and Content:

From Friday 4 – Saturday 26 September 2020 Solomon Fine Art was delighted to host a solo exhibition of new work by artist Carol Hodder. The expressive, semi-abstract paintings in this, the artist’s second solo exhibition at Solomon, are a sensory response to place, atmosphere and visceral experience. Carol Hodder has always been drawn to wild places. Raised on a farm on the north side of Cork City, there was a strong emphasis on the marking of seasons, through ploughing, harrowing, planting and harvesting. These earthy beginnings, coupled with time spent every summer in a house in the Kerry mountains without running water or electricity, continue to underscore her artistic direction.
