About the Exhibitions Database

The NIVAL Exhibitions Database has been compiled to improve public access to the Library's extensive collection of files documenting art and design exhibitions in Ireland.  The files contain catalogues, press material and ephemera on more than 10,000 solo and group exhibitions from the period 1900 to the present.

The Exhibitions Database is a reference resource providing basic details on Irish exhibitions including title, date, venue, and artists represented.  A visit to the library is recommended to researchers seeking a comprehensive view of the actual files.

Scope and Content:

"This exhibition is, in part, a revisitation of one of my earliest prints "Linnegan's Kitchen" from 1982. The original depicted a caged sow -they say- being prevented from the disaster of eating her own farrow...the present lockdown caused me to reflect on this piece and I found myself responding....riffing off the original if you like. Similarly a recent visit to the Antrim coast, just before lockdown, got me athinking. I realised l hadn't fully responded to the coastline of my formative years and l was inspired to do so . For me the title "Omphalos" references where l came from." Diarmuid Delargy
