About the Exhibitions Database

The NIVAL Exhibitions Database has been compiled to improve public access to the Library's extensive collection of files documenting art and design exhibitions in Ireland.  The files contain catalogues, press material and ephemera on more than 10,000 solo and group exhibitions from the period 1900 to the present.

The Exhibitions Database is a reference resource providing basic details on Irish exhibitions including title, date, venue, and artists represented.  A visit to the library is recommended to researchers seeking a comprehensive view of the actual files.

The show of the Museum of Fine Arts- Hungarian National Gallery surveys all of the major periods of Sean Scully's oeuvre from his early experiments in the 1960s, through the minimalism of the 1970s, and the compositions of the 1980s built from expressive bands and marked by plasticity, to his groups of works associated with window and wall motifs, all the way to his recent turn to figurativity, which came as a surprise to many. The sixty or so works on display will include monumental paintings and paper works as well as sculptural and photographic compositions.
