About the Exhibitions Database

The NIVAL Exhibitions Database has been compiled to improve public access to the Library's extensive collection of files documenting art and design exhibitions in Ireland.  The files contain catalogues, press material and ephemera on more than 10,000 solo and group exhibitions from the period 1900 to the present.

The Exhibitions Database is a reference resource providing basic details on Irish exhibitions including title, date, venue, and artists represented.  A visit to the library is recommended to researchers seeking a comprehensive view of the actual files.

Scope and Content:

The 'Irish Artist-led Archive - Sustainable Activism and the Embrace of Flux' is a curated archival project and touring exhibition that seeks to publicly present the rich history of Irish artist-led cultural initiatives that have taken place over the past 30 years. The project forms an on-going investigation into artist-led initiatives in Ireland and aims to decipher the kind of cultural conditions that led to their birth, their economic independence (or lack of), their organizational structures and how all of these factors effected their activities and life spans. The complete Irish Artist Led Archive has been deposited in the National Irish Visual Arts Library.
