Scope and Content

The Irish Exhibition of Living Art (IELA) was established to address the need for a wider exploration of contemporary Irish art and the public demand for such a forum. The committee to organise the first annual exhibition in 1943 included such renowned figures as Evie Hone, Mainie Jellett, Louis LeBrocquy and Norah McGuinness. The group was disbanded in the early 1990's.
The Irish Exhibition of Living Art Archive was donated to the Library by the family of Anne Yeats, artist and daughter of W.B. Yeats, following her death in 2001. This extensive archive contains meticulously compiled documentary material from Yeats' time as secretary for the IELA from 1947-1971.
