Scope and Content

The Fenderesky Gallery is a commercial gallery in Belfast that mainly exhibits contemporary art by living Irish and Northern Irish artists. The Fenderesky Gallery Image Collection consists of photographic images compiled by the gallery from 1990-2013. The vast majority of the images are of installed exhibitions. They includes solo, group and several two-artist exhibitions. On the whole, the images are snapshots as opposed to professionally taken, but they give the viewer a good impression of the artworks and the layout of the exhibitions held in the gallery. They also document the interiors of the three different buildings the gallery occupied from 1990-2013.
The collection also contains some images of artworks by artists represented by the gallery who frequently exhibited there. Many of these appear to have been taken by the artists themselves in studios or other settings and sent to the gallery. There are a very small number of exhibitions by some of these artists in other galleries. In the images there are very few people but occasionally there are photographs of an artist beside a piece of work in the gallery.
This collection consists of 218 files, each documenting a unique exhibition. There are over 109 solo artists and 37 group shows (with three or more artists) included. There are also a small number of miscellaneous files.
