Bulldozed ringforts, dirty well-water, quarried holy hills, access denied, recurring vandalism, suppressed mythologies, forgotten Irish names. How might pre-Christian sacred sites survive the environmental crisis, and the industrial attitudes that have caused it?

In this talk during ๐—–๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ธ, NIVAL Library Assistant Rรณnรกn ร“ Raghallaigh will discuss his performance and paintings working with sacred sites. He will also highlight material by other artists held in NIVAL relating to postcolonial intersections of Irish language, land and folklore.

Rรณnรกn ร“ Raghallaigh is an artist and researcher considering Irish folklore as a means for postcolonial action and healing. He works with myth, ritual and language rooted in the environment. His recent exhibition ‘Turais Taibhsรญ’ explored the effects of industry on pre-Christian sacred sites in the Irish landscape.

How might art reimagine our relationship with the living world? In this talk during ๐—–๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ธ, NIVAL Library Assistant Beatrice Oโ€™Connell reflects on her own artistic practice and its engagement with ecological and embodied approaches, situating these within a broader field of feminist and environmental art.

Drawing on research from the National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL), she highlights works that resonate with her ecofeminist and material-based methods, revealing how such practices contribute to ongoing conversations around ecology, care, and interconnectedness. Her projects, including ๐™ˆ๐™ช๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™–๐™ก๐™ž๐™จ๐™ข (with Rayleen Clancy), an ecofeminist film showing at Damer House Gallery, Rua Redโ€™s ๐™๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™ง๐™š, ๐™๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ ๐™‰๐™ค๐™ฌ, the Loop Festival in Barcelona, and an upcoming solo exhibition at Taylor Galleries, share a commitment to reciprocity and ecological awareness.
