  • Section 36 – Provides for archives to process personal data for archiving purposes in the public interest (AIPI) or historical research purposes
  • Section 42 – Provides for archives to process personal data that they hold
  • Section 54 – Provides for archives to process sensitive personal data that they hold
  • Section 71 – Provides for archives to process data, where the data was not originally collected by the archive.

Researcher Registration Form

When you visit NIVAL’s Reading Room, we will ask you to complete our Researcher Registration form. This registration form helps us understand the communities we are currently reaching at NIVAL and, through their absence, the communities we are not reaching, as well as which materials in our collections are most frequently accessed.

Your information is collected in line with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations). NIVAL will not collect any personal information about you without your clear permission. Any personal information that you volunteer to NIVAL will be treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality, strictly in accordance with the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003. Any information that you provide in this way is not made available to any third parties and is used exclusively by NIVAL in line with the purpose for which you provided it. We will only store and use your personal information to correspond with you about your appointment(s) and improve our services and accessibility for other researchers. You can contact us at any time to have your information changed or deleted. If you do not wish for information relating to your visit to be recorded, you may prefer consulting with NIVAL’s collection via our website only.

You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time using the ‘unsubscribe’ link on the footer of any of our newsletter emails. You can also email us on nivalinfo@ncad.ie and we will unsubscribe you.
