Watch this space: HIBERNIA symposium
Mark your calendar for a very special event with NIVAL in 2025.

Early announcement – keep your diary free to attend a very special symposium hosted by NIVAL at NCAD this April based around the themes of the HIBERNIA special collection and legacy-building for artists’ archives. The HIBERNIA collection is the outcome of a site-specific project by Scottish artist Peter Haining which is held at NIVAL. From 2000 to 2005, the artist travelled around the island of Ireland by bicycle seeking out folk, naïve and autodidactic works of art. This collection comprises more than fifty boxes of material amassed as he travelled.
NIVAL is a member of a network of international institutions, each of which has collected materials by the artist (known at different stages as Pete Horobin, Marshall Anderson, Peter Haining and Aitch), including the University of Dundee Archives and Museums, the National Library of Scotland, and Artpool Art Research Center at the Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI), Budapest. Led by Dr Judit Bodor (Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art & Design) and Dr Roddy Hunter (Glasgow School of Art), this symposium will form part of their initiative, ‘Curating the Digital Attic Archive: A Case Study For Open-Source Approaches To Artists’ Archives’.
